August Favorites

August Favorites

Before the weather cools down, and shorts and sandals are packed away for the year, I’m here to share my favorite beauty products from August with you!

This month, I have quite a few products to share with you. Most of these products were not released in August. They’re products I discovered and added to my collection this month.

I have mascara, lip stick and more to share with you!

**Note: All the items in this post I purchased with my own money. All opinions are my own.

NYX – HD Studio Photogenic concealer

I have really been loving this concealer this month. I’ve tried a couple of NYX concealers, both the waterproof one, and the one that comes in a pot. This one is nice because it has a tube with a wand and a doe foot applicator. I had to color match the best I could without testing it first. It comes in 23 shades, however I believe Target only carries about 6 or them.  I am usually fair, and I like foundations that have slight yellow undertones because my skin has a lot of natural red undertone. I chose shade 03 light, because I thought it was the best shade for me at the store.

NYX HD Photogenic Concealer in 03 Fair- Left is blended out and right is straight off the applicator

When I tried it at home, I swatched it on my hand and found it had very faint peach undertones. I thought this might turn out a disaster, but tried it anyway. It turns out the concealer works really well around the eyes because the slight peach tone cancels out any purples or blues near my eyes. This was great news. It also blends out very well, and doesn’t crease throughout the day. Win-win.

This concealer retails for $5 at stores that carry NYX products or online.

Maybelline- Lash Sensational Mascara

I must admit up until this month, I had been using the same mascara from probably four to five years. The Maybelline Mega Plush mascara did it’s job, it looked natural, it could be built up for performances, it was great. However, I really like thick and voluminous lashes, almost to the point of falsies. My tastes in eye makeup has changed since I was in high school, and I was doing thick eyeliner without doing thick mascara so my lashes were overshadowed by my eyeliner. It was not a good look.

I decided to try something new because you really have to build up the Mega Plush one to get a really thick look. I tried the Lash Sensational, and I almost never need more than a coat or two. With other mascars I was doing three to five coats. The Lash Sensational is great, it doesn’t flake off, and it stays on all day. (I do advise the non waterproof version of this mascara. It is very difficult to get off being washable and I can’t imagine trying to take off the waterproof formula.)

This mascara retails for $8 at stores that carry Maybelline products.

Makeup Revolution- Skin Kiss Highlighter in Golden Kiss

I picked up this highlighter because the other highlighters I have are not very portable. One I have is in a eyes and cheek palette, where I would have to take the whole palette for just the highlight when I’m traveling. The other is in a fancy box that granted looks pretty on a vanity, but is not ideal for traveling either.

This one comes in a compact which is nice. It’s a very large compact, but still keeps itself contained in the packaging. I believe this highlighter is available in three shades, Golden Kiss, Ice Kiss and Peach Kiss. I actually really like the shade because it’s enough t give a glow but not so bright it looks like my skin is oily. It is also buildable, which is nice too. The pan also has a lot of product for the price, which is always a bonus.

This highlighter retails for $9 at Ulta stores and online.

Milani- Color Statement Lipstick

I really like the formula of Milani’s lipsticks. They’re soft and hydrating on the lips and with a little lip liner can go a long way. I have Midtown Mauve, and I do enjoy it, but the two I’ve picked up are Naturally Chic, which is a “your lips but better”, and Tuscan Toast, which is a deep ox blood red. The formula and texture for these are similar, I didn’t see a difference between the two colors.

Milani Cosmetics Color Statement Lipstick- Left 48 Tuscan Toast and Right 25 Naturally Chic

I like Naturally Chic for every day. It is the same tone as my natural lip color, so a little swipe just make it look like a better version of my lips. Tuscan Toast I can definitely see more wear out of as it transitions to Autumn. I really like my deep berries and reds for the fall and winter, so I think this one will be showing up a lot more in the next couple months!

These lipsticks retail for $6 at drugstores that carry Milani, or Milani’s website.

BH Cosmetics- Metal Rose 11 piece brush set

I’ve been on the hunt for a good brush set, especially since some of my favorites have been shedding bristles quite a bit lately. My foundation brush was leaving hairs everywhere and I was getting tired of trying to pick them off my fresh foundation. I found this brush set at Charming Charlie, which now carries the brand in their stores. In the set was three face brushes, two concealer brushes, four eyeshadow brushes, a lip brush, a brow (or gel liner) brush, and a makeup bag. All of this retails for $23.

I love the metallic finish on the handles of the brushes. They’re also super soft. They’re very gentle on the face and eyes. With these brushes, some of the eyeshadow brushes are very precise. I do like that for placing color, but other days I want to cover a wider portion of the eye. They also pick up quite a lot of product, which is good too. I’d say BH Cosmetics has very high quality brushes for a low cost.

As we move into September, I can’t wait to see what types of products I’ll find for the fall!
