June Beauty Favorites

June is the official start of summer, which means it’s time to change beauty routines to beat the heat, and still give off those summer vibes. Here are some of the hair and makeup products I’ve found and used throughout the month of June!

**Note: All of the products mentioned below were bought with my money. All reviews and opinions of the products are my own.

Makeup Revolution – Ultra Professional Eyeshadow Palette in Flawless

I actually bought this palette a couple months back, but hadn’t had the time to test out its potential. The palette offers a wide variety of shades for a number of versatile day and night looks. It also ranges from matte shadows to metallic shadows.

I usually use this palette for day looks. It has a couple nice nude shades for an everyday eye. The color pigmentation is pretty high for a palette that wasn’t really that expensive. I usually always put on the shadows on with the NYX HD Eyeshadow Base. I’ve tried it without and it definitely creased on my lid after only wearing for half a day.

There are metallic shades I really like and one comes off as a dupe for Dust from Urban Decay’s Naked 3. My Naked 3 palette has seen a lot of use and Dust was my favorite for every day wear, so I was really happy to find one in this palette to use where I would have used Dust. I really like the shadows that look more glittery in the palette. They look like they’re going to come off as a chunky glitter, but they actually smooth on as a metallic shadow. For these shadows, I’ve found using a sponge eyeshadow applicator actually works better than using a blending brush.

This product is available at Ulta in store and online.

NYX Cosmetics – Matte Bronzer in Medium

In my makeup collection I’ve almost always had a bronzer that had a little bit of shimmer in it. While I like the shimmer, and how is gives the skin a dimensional beach-bronzed look, it’s not always the look I’m going for. I got the matte bronzer for a bronzed look without the shimmer. This bronzer could also be used as a contour, depending on the look that is being achieved.

This bronzer comes in five shades from NYX, though in my experience, most cosmetic stores only carry three of the shades. I looked at Target and Ulta, both that carry a large selection of NYX’s collection, and both only carried three of the shades. Bronzer is a difficult item in my makeup bag because I have fair skin. I have to be careful not to get a bronzer that looks orange on the skin or one that is too dark for my skin tone.

I was leaning toward the lightest shade in the line, Light. Ulta had samples of the shade out on the display and from what I could tell the color looked much more like a dark peach blush than it did a bronzer. I picked up the next shade at Ulta, Medium. It does well blending into the skin, and gives just the right amount of bronze to my skin. The compact also comes with a mirror and is fairly easy to throw in a bag or purse.

I’ve found this product at Target and Ulta, and online at nyxcosmetics.com

NYX Cosmetics – Hot Singles Eye Shadow in Poolside

I’ve always been a fan of NYX’s eyeshadows, and I also really like their singles. I’ve always found them to be really pigmented, and this one is no different. In my past experience, most of my NYX shadows have been natural or bronze colors, so this was the first time I tried one that was a bright color. I got this shadow for a color pop to natural eyes. When I bought it I also bought a liner in the same color, so I use the shadow to set the liner, especially under my eye.

The shadow was very bright and pigmented, and looked as it did in the packaging. I used it to set a liner, and it stayed through the day without moving. This was good for me, especially because I have a hard time putting color under my eye, as it often gives me fallout. I bought this single from a NYX Cosmetic store in California, so I do not know if their full collection is available in other stores that carry NYX.

NYX Cosmetics – Glam Liner Aqua Luxe Waterproof Eyeliner in Glam Lagoon

I bought this liner with the same intention to use a teal pop of color as the Poolside eyeshadow. I often pair this liner with my regular black liner. My favorite liners are waterproof liquid liners, because they have always stayed in place on my eye all day. I had never used this one of NYX’s liner collections before, and it was both pigmented and long wearing.

I liked this color and definitely want to use it more. Right now I’ve been paring it with my black liner, but I’d like to try it on its own too.

I found this liner at a NYX Cosmetics store in California, it is also available online and in stores that carry NYX.

Bumble and bumble – Surf Foam Spray Blow Dry

I got this product on a recommendation from my hairdresser. This product is a part mousse part salt spray formula, which is heat activated from a blowdryer. This works well with my hair and helps it hold a curl throughout the day, especially on hot days.

I have naturally wavy and curly hair, so this spray helps bring out its natural texture. I use this spray and blow dry with a diffuser, and it gives my hair natural beach waves. I’m not sure how the product would work for people who don’t have at least a little texture or wave in their hair. Many hair products like this seem like they don’t do much for people who have naturally straight hair, and it’s often because the product enhances the texture that already exists in the hair.

This spray gives a fresh off the beach wave. Sometimes pieces of my hair will dry differently, so a little retouching with a curling iron afterwards finishes the beach wave look.

I got mine from Sephora, it’s also available online and in salons that carry Bumble and bumble products.

TRESemme – Keratin Smooth deep smoothing mask

I actually first heard about this product after watching a video by Jazzybum on YouTube. She recommended the product for people trying to grown their hair out. I’m still growing my hair out from a long bob I had a couple years ago, and with the amount I use hot tools I take extra care of my hair. I use the mask once or twice a week in place of regular conditioner, especially after days I’ve used hot tools with it.

To use, I wash my hair with my regular shampoo, then smooth the mask into it. I usually clip it up, leave it for 3 to 5 minutes, and then rinse out. Then, I wrap in a towel as I normally would.

This mask leaves my hair so soft, and it also smells really good too! I definitely recommend for dry hair or hair that is used with hot tools or wrapped in tight styles often.

I found this product at Target, it’s probably also sold wherever TRESemme products are sold.
